Last week Nintendo made the blockbuster announcement of the price drop of the 3DS to 9.99 and 20 free games to who they call “3DS ambassadors” or current owners. This is a nice gesture and I commend Nintendo for doing this to easy the blow of the price cut to current users. I also want to give them props for the senior management in Nintendo taking pay cuts until the sales become strong. A move that RIM should lean with their double CEO but low level Job cutting mentality but I have already suggest what those guys should do to fix their issue. Nintendo is making the rights moves in getting better sales of the 3DS but needs to make sure they look back and learn from the many mistakes they made with the 3DS launch and I want to point out a few here that I feel are key. One of the issues while some may feel it was the biggest I feel is a small but significant part of the problem is the price. The 3D console launch at 9.99 which many out there felt was just far too expensive for a portable gaming console. A lot of people feel that if its portable it must be cheaper and lower than what a full console cost.
