This is astory that aired on OETA Public Television’s The Oklahoma News Report in Tulsa Oklahoma as reported by Cathy Tatom and photojournalist Tim Carson. For more information or to contact us, please go to www.oeta.tv The verbatim script follows below… BACK IN THE ’80’s, SOME LANDFILLS BEGAN RECOVERING METHANE GAS PRODUCED BY ROTTING GARBAGE TO KEEP ODORS DOWN. NOW A FEW ARE TAKING THE PROCESS ONE STEP FURTHER IN AN EFFORT TO GO GREEN. THEY’RE RECYCLING THE GAS INTO A CHEAP, RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE. OETA’S CATHY TATOM TAKES US TO A TULSA LANDFILL RECYLING ITS METHANE GAS TO HELP POWER A NEARBY CEMENT PLANT. TRASH COLLECTED FROM TULSA AND MANY OF ITS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES IS DUMPED INTO THE QUARRY LANDFILL TO DECOMPOSE. THE PROCESS RESULTS IN THE PRODUCTION OF LOTS OF FOUL SMELLING METHANE GAS AS THE GARBAGE ROTS. TO KEEP THE STENCH FROM OVERWHELMING THOSE DOWN WIND, PETE SCHULTZE SAYS WASTE MANAGEMENT LACES ITS TRASH PITS WITH METHANE GAS COLLECTION WELLS. Pete Schultze/Waste Management: “Very similar to natural gas wells in the ground and then we put a vacuum on the wells and we actually suck the gas right from the landfill.” IN THE PAST, THE METHANE EXTRACTED FROM THE LANDFILL WAS SIMPLY FLARED OFF. THAT WASTED THIS CHEAP, PLENTIFUL, RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCE. The New Single – Release Date: 13th July 2009 www.honeyryder.co.uk Following their recent Top 40 successes with Numb and Fly Away, and their Radio 2 playlisted track Choices, Honey Ryder have announced details of their new single Love In Time, a cover of a relatively unknown Roy Orbison track. The London-based duo, Martyn Shone and Lindsay OMahony, had a chance meeting with Roys widow, Barbara Orbison, following one of their shows at South By South West in Austin, Texas in March. One of the tracks was Love In Time, which was released by Roys label on a compilation of B Sides and demo recordings just after he passed away. The band teamed up with producers Goldust (Bryan Adams, Natasha Bedingfield) to record their version of the song, and it has since been added as a bonus track on the bands forthcoming debut album Rising Up, which is released on 22nd June. Barbara is so impressed with the bands version of the song that she has agreed to fly over to the UK to help promote it with Lindsay and Martyn. I was brought up listening to Roy, my parents were constantly playing his records, so I was extremely honoured and flattered to be approached by Barbara to take part in such a great event, and to be introduced to more of Roys beautiful songs, says Lindsay. There is no doubt that …
