Old 1940’s movie? Dealing with a well-to-do actress who’s voice is terrible so they substitute a chorus girl?
Question by i_heart_rock22: Old 1940’s movie? Dealing with a well-to-do actress who’s voice is terrible so they substitute a chorus girl?
I’ve been looking for this movie for a long time, but have come up short. I really thought it had Grace Kelly and Fred Astaire in it, but I may be wrong on one or both accounts. The basic story revolves around an actor (Astaire) and an actress (Kelly) who are currently in pre-production of a movie when the technology comes out that you can have SOUND in a movie and musicals become huge. Unfortunately the actress has a terrible voice that no one can listen to, so in order to make the movie a success they dub the actress’s voice with a Chorus girl whom the actor has been smitten with.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, so my details may have been foggy, but it was one of my favorite movies growing up and I can’t seem to track down which one it is!

It’s Singin’ in the Rain. It stars Gene Kelly (actor), Jean Hagan (actress) and Debbie Reynolds (chorus girl). good musical.
