Question by fourfivesix: Person who writes soundtracks for movies?
I would really like to be a person who puts together soundtracks for movies. Whenever I hear songs, I can usually picture scenarios or something that it would go good with. I also love discovering new music/listening to things that aren’t as mainstream (unless it sounds really good), but I definitely think I could get a lot of bands out there. There’s so much great music that a lot of people don’t know about, and I could find ways to incorporate it into movies to seem even better.
Also, when I’m watching movies and a song comes on, sometimes I’ll think that it fits really well with that scene. Soundtracks for trailers are definitely very important as well, that’s usually what gets me into seeing a movie.
If I were to EVER get this job, I might go into making scores later on, of music that I’ve composed. But what I really want to know is:
1) What is this job called?
2) How might I get into it without “knowing someone”
3) What college major would be good for this (I would probably minor in something else with technology)
Thanks so much!

1. Film Composer
2. By going to college you meet other creative people that help you as you help them, for example you may become friends with an aspiring director and form a beneficial friendship with them.
3. Not sure on the exact course as i’m sure there is a variety but some form of music production, depending on whether you are wanting to play the music yourself or just compose the music for musicians to play
