Professional Home Video camera?Amateur movie maker?
Question by specialforceguy: Professional Home Video camera?Amateur movie maker?
Hi i’m an inspired 16 year old movie director/actor i have made sevral videos that has boosted my popularity in many ways! I’m looking for a very good Camera (maybe HD+ HDD) that works great in
-Low light situations(some cams have a light AKA AutoFlash
-Quick Auto Focus
-HD sound recording quality
I like making drama, comedy, horror movies so that means that i need to work in very low light areas for vampire/zombies scenes. Drama=Sound
i have a very low budget (because i bought a car not 2 long ago) about 400$ if my dad is willing to give me a hand maybe up to 800$ AND OH I HAVE AN I-MAC So please reccomend me a cam that is MAC-FRIENDLY! I also work with final cut HD and I-MOVIE so a cam that works with both progs thanks! What tools, tips would u give a youtuber lol Exp-~Tripod,Mic, Apps thanks for reading!

If you want to be like the professionals, you will not get a hard drive, flash memory or DVD based camcorder. You will stay with miniDV tape.
Camcorders that work well in “low light” have big lenses and big imaging chips. Your budget can’t get there. If you are making movies, you have the control. Turn on the lights. You do not need to work in low light. Change the lighting in post-production.
Good audio means external mics – not the camcorder’s built-in mics.
All camcorders are Mac friendly – if you have the right tools… MiniDV tpae based camcorders compress the video the least resulting in best video quality.
There is no such thing as “FinalCut HD”. There is FinalCut Express and FinalCutPro (and Pro2) and iMovieHD.
The least expensive camcorders with a mic-in jack are the Canon ZR800, ZR900 and ZR930. They do not have manual audio control.
The least expensive camcorders with a mic-in jack and manual audio control are the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9.
Audio Technica makes a decent directional video mic:

most of these camcorders do not have an accessory shooe mount, so get a camera bracket:

Here is an OK tripod

Can also be used as a monopod and with a little modification (add some 2.5 pound weights to the leges when the legs are folded), it can be – with a lot of practice – a hand-held stabilizer.
You will also need a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable:

to connect the minDV tape camcorder’s DV port to you Mac.
