Q&A: A few questions about sending something to Square Enix….?
Question by Danny: A few questions about sending something to Square Enix….?
Okay so after some persuasion from people in my previous Yahoo! Answers topic, I was determined to send something to Square Enix in the next few months. I’m planning on sending a huge “booklet” of some sort, containing my ideas of characters, locations, world(s), a premise, a story synopsis, a full script and drawings for characters and locales, along with a copyright and maybe a contract. However, I have some questions:
1.) How exactly can I write a copyright to make it my own?
2.) How can I get them to make sure they read it? I heard that one time someone did something similar to what I want to do and Square Enix ended up making a game from what they came up with, so I’m interested.
3.) If this happens, about how much money would I get? If the game sells around 6 million (so to speak) and it sells foe 60$ a copy, how much would I get from that, you think?
4.) Is this even worth it? I know I’d have a MUCH better chance with getting approval from other companies since SE probably doesn’t care and wouldn’t bother to read, but SE has such high production values and many, many loyal fans (including me) and their CG skills are absolutely stunning, and I’d like to see my creation be fully realized.
Please be as thorough and detailed as possible. THANK YOU!

Don’t you just love it when you write a 15-minute reply to your question and something crashes your browser? Okay, here’s the really short version.
What you’re asking here is this:
“Dear Square Enix. I’ve never made a game before and don’t have a shred of code or even renderings, but I have a *brilliant idea*! So brilliant, in fact, that not only should you pick it over all of the titles that you’ve already got in development by people who have proven themselves in the business, but so brilliant that you’ll let ME keep the copyright on it while YOU take all the risk in developing it. Sure, that means $ 50-60 million out of your pockets and if the game tanks then you lose all that cash and I’m out some graph paper and beer money, but think of the upside! If the game’s a hit, then I get a percentage of each sale AND get to keep the rights to the title, so you have NO bargaining power with me! Isn’t that GREAT?!”
That’s not sarcasm or being obnoxious or making fun of you. That’s *literally* what you’re asking for. No risk and all the power. If you were the guy holding the checkbook, what would you do?
