Question by Desiree: Does a religion like Christianity make people complacent about life?
I mean, these poor people have been tricked into thinking that the afterlife holds greater pleasures than their present life…if you’re watching a movie and you believe that it gets better after it ends, then doesn’t it make watching the movie kind of pointless?

In the past it has. Paul had this problem in the Bible. People knew Christ was coming back and believed it would be any day. If you take that belief seriously, why would you go to work, keep up your house, or go anywhere? Your focus would be preparing your spirit to be ready for heaven. Paul had to write numerous letters explaining it may take a while, and they should go on with their normal lives until the day arrives.
