Q&A: Finding Fioranol or Fioricet in Los Cabos?

Question by joe.questions: Finding Fioranol or Fioricet in Los Cabos?
I am currently in Los Cabos, Mexico and due to a chronic pain issue and some complicatons, I need to get Fioranol or Fioricet. We are hearing conflicting information on whether a prescription is needed here in Mexico, but since we are here with a doctor, that shouldn’t be an issue. Unfortunately, we can’t find a pharmacy that even sells it (or at least they say they don’t).
So, my questions are:
1) does anyone know for sure it requires a script
2) does anyone know where to buy it in the Los Cabos area.
Thanks!

I presume you mean Fiorinal with codeine. Yes, it is available in Mexico. It is a controlled substance. Not every pharmacy carries controlled substances..there may be just a couple in the city that do..it is a different “class” of pharmacy. Even then,it may be very hard to find if it is not commonly used in that area. You say you are there with a doctor…do you mean a friend or family member from the U.S. who is a doctor? If so, he cannot write a prescription in Mexico. Only a prescription written by a Mexican doctor can be filled in a Mexican pharmacy. I cannot help but wonder , if you have chronic pain, why did you not bring your medication with you on your trip? If you are truly in pain and do not have any medication, ask your hotel to refer you to a local doctor. He may be able to give you a limited prescription. Mexican law is very strict…you cannot just go see a doc for a few minutes and get a narcotic prescription. He may give you something that is not a controlled substance. Docs do not generally prescribe narcotics for patients they do not know.
