I’m not familar with NetIQ apps but think they are using WMI – Windows Management Instrumentation ( http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/pnppwr/wmi/WMI-intro.mspx ) to interact with the MS Windows OS.
Working with wmi is easy and a lot of win sysadmins are using it every day. Take a look at this tool – Scriptomatic ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=09dfc342-648b-4119-b7eb-783b0f7d1178&DisplayLang=en ) – “the amazing utility that actually wrote WMI scripts for you ” . With Scriptomatic you can choose to create scripts written in VBScript, JScript, Perl and Python. …or just search the net for some “perl wmi scripts”.
