Question by Carly Harley: How to import a sims 3 video into iMovie on a mac?
Hi well I’m trying to make a sims 3 movie, and i go into iMovie and press file, then import (i saved all of the sims 3 videos out on my desktop) so then when i go to click on the videos to import, it won’t let me click on it. its not “clickable”. it’s an avi file so i don’t know why quicktime can’t play it, because it says that quicktime can’t play the video. please help i mean do i need some sort of converter? im not good with this stuff so can someone give me some answers please?

AVI is a Windows proprietary file type. QuickTime will not deal with AVI files directly. If you only want to play them back, download and install Flip4Mac.

After installation, you will be able to play AVI (and other Windows media file formats) using QuickTime.
If you want to edit, it will probably be better to transcode – convert – the AVI files to a format iMovie can deal with. Most common are DV and MP4 files. I like using MPEG StreamClip for the conversion

there are other transcoders available.
