Q&A: How to publish a book yourself?
Question by TheSmokeEffect: How to publish a book yourself?
I’ve written three books and I wish to go the route of publishing it myself. I was wondering if anyone out there can tell me the best way to do this how much it costs, where to get a designer for the cover and other steps I need to take to get my book published.
Also I reside in forth worth tx so if you know any good places in or around that area let me know. I also grew up in sacramento ca and if there is anyone in that area who knows any good places let me know because i have several friends out there trying to help me plus I go back there every couple of months.
P.S
Life is a bitch when your a struggling writer.
I also write film scripts so if your another writer looking for someone to talk to about how to write a film or sell one just hit me up…indie directors too.

I wouldn’t.
If they’re not good enough for publishers or agents, there’s a reason for that. It’s much, MUCH more effective in the long run to be persistent with finding a publisher, not finding buyers.
Self publishing will rarely, if ever, yield /any/ sort of income. It is a financial drain that will have almost no return. Sure, one copy costs $ 1.00, but bookstores typically want to buy a specific minimum number of copies. You’ll need to sell to a lot of bookstores, too. It can easily rack up into the thousands. Without a publisher and being next-to-unknown as an author (possibly completely unknown, save for friends and family), most people will skip over your book and go to another. It’s tough, but it’s the truth. Like you said, life is hard as a struggling writer. Believe me, it’s going to be even worse when you’re thousands of dollars in debts, you get your book copies returned from bookstores because they’re not selling and possibly being forced to pay for the books that don’t sell if you sell them online.
So, as I said before, I wouldn’t do it.
If you really think you can make it, though, I’ve heard lulu.com is “good.” In all honesty, I don’t know if that means they’re cheap, or whether they’re actually good at publishing books that sell. It’s a risk you’re going to have to take if this is the path you go down.
