All I’ve seen is the movie, but I’m trying to make a point in the essay, and need to know whether or not the characters in the book ever find the question to life, the universe, and everything who’s answer is 42. And, if not, what do they do the entire book?? would I be wrong in stating that the books have no plot?

No, they never find the question. The machine built to calculate the question ran for 5 billion years, but was destroyed 5 minutes before producing an answer.

There’s definitely plot, it is just not as typical and linear as some other plots are.
