Q&A: Need Help!!!… Anyone?
Question by Andy!: Need Help!!!… Anyone?
Okay, so I recently wrote a script with my brother. He’s 27 at the moment. I’m 16. He’s submitted the script to several companies including Universal and Columbia. He’s gotten a few meetings, I mean the script is great!!!
However, for various reasons, they don’t wanna let him direct but they STILL wanna buy the script.
However, every time the script’s been submitted, it’s been submitted as my brother being the ONLY writer.
Now if he were to direct the movie, I’d get the writing credits along with him– That was the deal.
But if the script’s sold, my brother would be the only one getting the writing credits since the script’s been submitted each time as HIM being the ONLY writer. However, I still WANT the writing credits also. He says he’s not sure though because he doesn’t know if I can get credits for being 16.
So I’m 16. Here’s my question… Do I HAVE to be part the writer’s guild of America if I’m a minor? Or can my name just be simply added to the writing credits?
I mean my brother’s not a member of the Writers Guild of America and he can still get credits.
Can’t it be the same with me? Even if I’m 16?
I mean I don’t HAVE to be part of the writers guild or america, right?

There is no age requirement for being the writer or co-writer credited on the script. Your brother should have included your name when he submitted it.
