Q&A: Please help !! Am i making the right decision by not going ?
Question by PureEx: Please help !! Am i making the right decision by not going ?
Well i’ve been wanting to go to california ever since i was a child, i love movies, i love stories, i love writing short stories and writing screenplays and visualizing how a film would turn out to be. But i never got a change to actually shoot movies. I graduated in 2007 and finished my AS exams in 2009. Went to Strayer university in the 2009 fall and studied management but i was always planning to change majors. My GPA was really low after the summer classes i took and i’ve been trying to raise it up and retake the classes. I’m re taking them right now and i’ll get my grades hopefully by next week but i did really good on my midterms so hopefully the grades will turn out to be good. I already applied to AU and i got rejected simply because of my GPA. Then i found about this New york film academy in universal studio and they told me if i applied really quickly i can get accepted for the winter which starts in 3 weeks because a few students dropped out last minute. I live in dc btw and the academy is in california. I have to pay half the tuiton which is 18,000 + the deposit 1000. Pay my university 2020. Pay my rent 3000. Pay the first month rent in universal city which is also the same price 3000. Pay for shipping 1000. Thats not including the emergency money. I also have to send in a creative portfolio which i didn’t get started with. 3 Page narrative writing. A bank statement. I really want to study filmmaking there, meet filmmakers and see california because i never went there before. Am i making decisions too quickly? Should i wait till september? What do you guys think i should do ?
a – Stay in DC and get a higher GPA and credits while taking my required classes for winter and spring, work on my creative portfolio by writing short films and shooting them in an institute or academy for few months. Then apply for the fall 2011 to universities in NY and LA.
b- Spend over 30,000 and get my documents in as soon as possible? but i’ll be studying filmmaking in (NYFA) starting january which is in 3 weeks? Btw i don’t know if NYFA’s bachelor degree is a serious degree and if i want to get a job they would look at it in a serious way =/ ? Is NYFA like a university ? What do you guys think i should do?
Please help me !!
