Q&A: Reliable freeware for video editing?

Question by HandsomeDan: Reliable freeware for video editing?
I’m about to start editing a video series for upload, and I need to make sure all goes well.
In the past, I’ve had spotty luck with programs like Adobe Premiere and Windows Movie Maker (Sound seems to get choppy and de-synchornized).
Can someone suggest a good piece of software for a Windows based machine, that isn’t going to break the bank? It doesn’t need to do wild and crazy things, it just needs to not ‘break’ my clips.
I’m getting a lot of responses that are NOT freeware, please don’t suggest demos or trials; I need freeware that doesn’t require me to pay after a period, and I can’t use something that is crippled until I pay for it.

I like using a program called AVIDemux . (if you dont like that you can also try Handbrake or SUPER! )
