Q&A: SONY VEGAS SPECS QUESTION?

Question by Dyari p: SONY VEGAS SPECS QUESTION?
hey im currently using sony vegas pro 9. i seems my computer cant handle it. im only producing a video 4-5mins long or equal to 1 song. but after it passes 3 minutes the preview screen goes red and shit happens, the “send, dont send” error comes out and hangs then my programs crashes. i though i could work my way around this which made me restart my pc about 30 times today. i used simple text effects and NO TRANSITIONS AT ALL but it doest seem to work still crashes resolution on low not even in HD mode anymore and on top of all that i havent even tried rendering it and if i did im sure ill probably burn my pc down.

my specs are

core2duo processor
nvidia 9500 series 512
i have at least 20GB leff
2gb or RAM

im planning to buy another 1gb stick of ram tomorrow will that help? or is it my processor thats making my pc look like crap. im so frustrated i have been working on this all day and the results never changed i tried a lot of changes in the preferences and options but still it does not work.

can my pc really use this software? thats what i really want to know.

PS i have cheap ass 5 pixel HD camera. im sure that would require less from my pc right? and im trying to put almost 50+ clips into one 4-5min movie.
i also converted all my files to MPEG from MOV, will that narrow down the ” i have corrupted files issue? ” thanks

I believe part of your issue is that you only have 20GB of hard drive space. When programs like Vegas Pro need more memory than the RAM can give, they use disk space called Scratch Space. But that can become full and cause problems (read more about that at the links below). This is the same as the Page File (virtual memory) or Paging. You can do a google search to read about how to optimize your version of your Windows OS to manage the Space. BTW: Don’t partition your drive(s). That will slow your processing down.

Although Vegas Pro states the minimum system requirements as follows, in part, you actually need more, especially working with HD video.

■Microsoft® Windows® XP 32-bit SP2 (SP3 recommended), Windows Vista™ 32-bit or 64-bit (SP1 recommended), or Windows 7
■1 GHz processor (multicore or multiprocessor CPU recommended for HD)
■1 GB RAM (2 GB recommended)

You should always close any open programs running in the background, especially anti-virus programs. Also you should de-fragment your hard drive often.

Adding RAM will help a bit and its cheap. And just so you know, the kind of graphics card you have doesn’t make any difference on how the video editor works. As long as you have an acceptable view on your computer screen. You should also add another [internal] disk drive, say 500GB (7200rpm S/ATA ) or more. Then move all your media to it. That will free up the main drive. Plus, it’s easier to mange all your media on one drive than having it mixed with other non-media data and programs. External drives are too slow in moving media so only use an external drive only as back up storage.
