There is no secret tip to remember a script that I have found in over 30 years of professional acting.
It seems that some scripts lend themselves to your own personal style and some do not.
One thing that you must do is work without distraction. Music and friends talking about the latest fashions do not assist you in learning lines.
I have tried a few things that help a little, but it is still hard work and is not quick.
First, just read the script over and over saying the lines out loud. Don’t try to memorize until you have the way you want to say the words comfortable in your own mind. That will change when you have another character feeding you lines, but you can get a good idea of how to start and you will start the memorization process.
Second – Try writing out your scripts either by hand or on computer. That forces you to concentrate on every word. Do that a couple of times and though it is not quick, it is fairly effective for me.
Finally – Find a friend to run lines with you. Part of your memory process involves triggers from the other lines in the script. Listen to what the other characters say and figure out why you are answering them in the way your character does and that will give you a great clue to your line.
As I said before nothing is quick, but those are a few ways that have helped me. Good luck and tell us how you do!
