For example what if cowboys and aliens doesn’t rise above the 160 million line (that’s the cost of production for the movie). Who loses money? What happens?

the buyers will loose the money. if any new movie had a good talk in public while it was still in sets, the buyers will ready to pay more for it. After they got it they release it to different centers and if the movie had no collections then they will loose money. but some how they will try to make some money by dubbing it to other languages or selling rights to other country distributers .
