me n my freinds make short films and we are looking to upgrade from our ipod camera is it better to use a compact camcorder or to use a dslr (alot of people on utube that make movies and stuff use dslr)

If you are able to buy both I would go with a DSLR. Not only does it allow you to shoot in HD quality, it also is capable of taking amazing shots. This is something that you don’t get with a video camera.
A lot of Commercial videos are shot using DSLR these days, including stuff shot for TV.
The DSLR is often lighter and more compact and you can have the option of interchangeable lenses for it. All around a winner.
