I just got a new camera that shoots in 1080p, and I’m looking to make some cool edits. I’m currently running on vista, but I may be getting a mac soon. That being said, I HATE windows movie maker, it sucks (other than its ease of use)… so are there any free video editing programs that are significantly more powerful, but still relatively easy to use? How powerful is mac’s final cut?

depends on all your level of skills, to be honest, wait till you get your mac a free software iMovie is pre installed that has the ease of Windows Movie maker but the features of almost any other mainstream product like Final Cut Studio.
It allows stuff like Green Screening (chroma key) so its pretty powerful!
