Question by Ⅾαɼƙ Uɱɓɼҽoɳ™: What is the best replacement for Sony Vegas, or what is a good video editor on the Mac?
I have used iMove 09, and it wasn’t to bad, much better than Windows Movie Maker. However, I now need to make more complex videos and iMovie will simply not cut it.
I have tried Final Cut Express and Pro, and it is the single worst bit of software I have ever encountered. It is difficult to use and completely counter intuitive. I simply cannot stand it.
From my PC life I am used to Sony Vegas Platinum and Pro, and am looking for something similar to those on the Mac.
I’d love Premiere Elements to arrive on the Mac because I really don’t need the full version of it, so any other alternatives than Premiere?
I should also add that Sony Vegas Pro 9 is in my opinion the best video editor on the market, and I was very familiar with its layout and interface, and loved its compact size and especially its ability to easily handle multiple audio and video tracks.
Something with these characteristics on the Mac would really brighten my day.
Well all kinds of editing, like mixing video clips and audio tracks, complex animated slide shows, etc. I have the latest Final Cut Pro, but I just cannot stand it. I could install Vegas on boot camp, which I already have set up for gaming but I don’t want to, after all that defeats having a Mac, its strongest supposed suite is video editing and I can’t find anything good. I find it depressing that a company that produces such excellent software such as Aperture, iLife, and iWork can produce such an awful, unintuitive, cheap feeling video editor. Sony Vegas leaves it for dead. If worse comes to worst I will just install Premier Pro (Hurry up Adobe and port Elements!), however I really don’t need something that high end.

What kind of editing are you doing? I personally really like FCP but it could be it’s just better/easier for what I’m doing. Which version of FCP are you using? I don’t like Premier.
Avid Xpress might be a suitable alternative.
There’s also HYPERENGINE-AV, ZS4 Video Editor and DDClip.
You could also use Boot Camp to run Windows and install Vegas. I would not run Windows as a virtual machine under Parallels or VMWare use Boot Camp or else Vegas will probably be insanely slow. Boot Camp should already be installed on your Intel Mac.
