The movie is about a black boy who is entering some sort of engine making competition with his friends, he’s kind of a geek and he works at a garage as a mechanic of sorts. A popular girl he likes damages her car and she agrees to help him become cool if he will fix her car. >< Best answer:

It’s a remake of the older (80’s) movie ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ , which starred Patrick Dempsey – which is probable a remake of something older, to be honest.

The new version is called ‘Love Don’t Cost a Thing’
