i see glimpses of a tiny little hand sized thing in the film but on Carson Daly they were showing a big bulkier Canon. are there any small cameras suitable for movie making?

I think you are talking about the DSLRs.
If it was a Canon, it was probably a Canon 7D, or 5D Mark II
Do you think you can find a link of the exact video? Maybe on Youtube…?

-Not really. The quality is usually very compressed and poor. The extremely small sensors on the point & shoot cameras will not get you any shallow depth of field, or any manual control at all.
