Ive always wanted to make movies and have written parts of scripts, but i dont know how to get into it as an actual career or profession. Can anyone point me in the right direction… like without the expensive film schools that are really far away from me

Start working as a volunteer PA (Production Assistant) on the short movies to learn stuff and ask as many questions as you can from the crew to help you become more familiar with the job.
Then you can get some part time courses in some local colleges (as continuing education) which will not be too expensive and since you already have some experience, you will connect to the course a lot more.
That is how you can get your foot in the door and then start directing your own small films and get your career start from there.
To start, checking the job listings on Craigslist.org. Then go to the page for your city and start looking under JOBS for film, TV, and radio
Or you can put your name on the wall of some film schools with your phone number, to let them know that you will help as a PA on their shootings for school projects.
