Q&A: Would a WGA strike help spec screenwriters who aren’t guild members?
Question by notsanpaku: Would a WGA strike help spec screenwriters who aren’t guild members?
If the writer’s guild goes on strike, what does that mean for screenwriters who aren’t members of this organization? Supposedly studios are stockpiling scripts now in case of an Oct. 31 strike, but can writers who are not guild members still sell their scripts to studios during the strike?

Yes, to answer your question. Non members of WGA, can and usually do sell scripts to studios. The down side of that is, anyone who crosses the line gets blacklisted from Guild writers. Think about it this way, back in the 80’s George Lucas crossed the line with Steven Speilberg and was successful when they wrote and directed the Indiana Jones movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark”
