Question by Binkers17: Selling a Screenplay????
Hello.

I am interested in selling a screenplay that I have recently completed. I have registered it with the U.S. copy right office, and it is printed and ready to go. I researched a little and found that it is almost impossible to sell an unsolicited script, and that I should get an agent……..BUT

Do you pay an agent? Like, a down payment for their services????? I don’t understand that…..

P.S. I am underage (16), and I know that’s not a problem per say, but is there anything special I have to do because of that?

Agents take a commission of 10% from the sale of a screenplay at no time should you, the writer ever have to pay for anything. Agents that do charge money are called, “Fee charging agents.” They are frauds and will never sell anything but will be more than happy to take your money.

Because you are underage, you cannot legally sign a contract. You would need one of your parents to cosign with you to make it a legal and binding document. A contract needs two conditions to make it legal. An amount of money must be paid to you. It can be a dollar, it can be a million dollars but silver must cross your palm or be deposited into a bank account of your choosing. It must have a time limit as all contracts must be able to end. The usual time period is one year with provisions to extend it if needed built in.

I’m a produced screenwriter with feature film and TV credits.
