How do you make movies into animated gifs?

Question by stickbob911: How do you make movies into animated gifs? Just wondering if there is some software that can transform movies into animated gif.

Answer by Count DI’m not sure about movies. But if you have Adobe Photoshop (I’m using version 6, you might need to do it differently if you have a different version), you can make a gif from scratch. You make it like you would a flip-book. You know how each page of a flip-book has a slightly moved or different image than the page before it? Well, in Photoshop, you want to think of each individual layer as one of the pages. I find it easier to cut and move the image that I will animate in one photoshop document, and then move it to a second document which will become my gif. I select the layers I just moved, and hit control-e to merge them. When I have all of my layers, or flip-book pages, the way I want them, I go to File –> Save for Web. There is a little checkbox you hit that says “Animation” and there is a preview button towards the bottom of the screen. Hit the preview button, and if you like it hit okay. If not, go back, edit, and go through this process again. Congrats, you now have your gif! P.S. Sometimes it will not let you hit the “Animation” box because the file is to big. If this happens, go to Image –> Resize –> Image Size, and type in smaller numbers in… Continue reading
