The ending of the NOVEL I am Legend?

Question by Gabriel: The ending of the NOVEL I am Legend?
So I checked the book out from the library before the movie came out,
and finally got around to “finishing it” the other day.
Only I’m not sure if I finished it.
The front cover says “And chilling tales”. Halfway through, Robert Neville takes the pills Ruth gave him moments before his execution. That Chapter ends with the sentence “I Am Legend.” I was expecting this to be the last line of the book, but then the whole next few chapters are these little stories of people who have very strange encounters.
A man who can make knives appear in a man’s body.
Seven little girls who can make waves come from no where, Animals come from no where, boulders fall from the sky..
it all seems to have nothing to do with the initial storyline.

So was that part where he took the pills the ending of the original novel “I Am Legend”?

The novella ends with the words that are its title.

The rest are, indeed, “chilling tales” Matheson wrote at various times in his life. Stephen King cites him as an early influence… he probably influenced more people than that.

I remember watching The Twilight Zone on TV quite a bit, and Matheson wrote a lot for that.
He also wrote “The Incredible Shrinking Man,” and lots of other ‘stuff.’ I think you can find an entry on him in Wiki if you’re interested:
