The New Lebron James Movie!
Instead of playing in the FIBA World Basketball Championship this summer, Lebron James has opted to increase his already stratospheric brand by starring in a movie called “Fantasy Basketball Camp” that is starting production this summer. The movie is being written and directed by Malcolm D. Lee whose previous projects include “Soul Men” and “Undercover Brother”. The plot involves five men who come to Las Vegas to fulfill their fantasies by going to the LeBron James Adult Basketball Camp, but LeBron unintentionally gets wrapped up in their personal problems (Haha?), and the movie is supposed to be modeled after the summer blockbuster, “The Hangover.” There is no telling this early whether or not this comedy is promising but writing Peter Steinfeld (“Be Cool”, “21”) is revising the script. Whether or not this movie will be excellent is debatable, but we can
all agree that it will sell very well do to the star power of the King.
But is Lebron making the right decision? He is forgoing the opportunity to represent his country against the rest of the world in the FIBA World Basketball Championship in Turkey to give Hollywood a shot to the chagrin of USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo. Others feel that Lebron’s appearance in this movie is more of a stunt or marketing ploy instead of a legitimate starring role. This theory makes one reminisce of Michael Jordan’s feature film Space Jam and Shaquille O’Neal’s appearances in “Steel” and “Kazaam.” Whatever the case, one has to realize that Lebron is not a just a professional basketball player, he is the most electrifying figure in sports entertainment today.
