Tips for writing a screenplay for a comedy movie.?
Question by jerm: Tips for writing a screenplay for a comedy movie.?
I am writing my first screenplay. I understand writing and formats of screenplay, I have a detailed story and fleshed out characters, but my only struggle now is… I can’t make it funny. I have been told I am very funny, but I am having SO much trouble making actually funny jokes and incorporate them into the screenplay!
So, there’s my dilemma. My question now is, is there any readings/websites/general tips I can get to make this screenplay funny?!
I, myself, find ‘smart’ humor (Arrested Development) funny, for reference.

Unfortunately, you can’t teach funny.
The best thing you can do is to watch flicks that have the type of humor you’re the most comfortable with and see how they pace it. Comedy is all about pacing. Do they use a straight man? How many beats per joke (many times, it’s not just line/answer, line/answer it’s line/line/answer, where the first line is the feeder, the second line is the straight man, and the third is the punch).
