We Like To Watch Movies Online And Save Money
When my wife got laid off six months ago from her first grade teaching job, we had to take stock of our household budget. Cable TV was a big expense and maybe we could find a way to do without it. We looked around and saw too much technology in our home all doing the same thing. So we canceled our cable service and found another way to watch movies online.
We like to regularly watch movies online and get a good portion of other viewing online too. We shopped around the Internet, particularly looking to watch movies online and quickly found a number of media sites that would allow us to watch movies online as well as all kinds of other TV.
Dave Nolan, a computer technician friend of ours came to the same conclusion and he dropped his cable provider three months after we did. Money wasn’t the major factor for Dave but he did want more control over
the services and the movies he wanted to watch online.
I don’t think we are unusual either, more and more Americans like to watch movies online via their computers. More and more websites are starting to offer free movies online along with TV shows. Viewers are taking advantage of this to cut out their cable or satellite TV and wrap up all their home entertainment over the Internet.
Internet users in America like to watch movies online! Around Christmas a huge 14.3 billion online videos were downloaded. 13% more than in November according to comScore, an Internet marketing research firm. The most popular site to watch movies online is at YouTube but many other sites are doing good business too.
Internet TV services are feeding off a new audience of techno viewers in search of free movies online. There’s enough good content with online TV to make
subscription-free viewing a good option.
But there is a cost to be paid for saving subscription money when we watch movies online. We are used to a big screen with stereo sound, and to watch movies online through a lesser computer screen is not nearly as satisfying a viewing experience. You can’t rely on the technology either. We struggled to watch the presidential votes coming in because the live broadcasts on some of the news channel sites were jerky and broken up.
We had these difficulties despite having broadband. Broadband is an essential prerequisite to watch our movies online. As broadband coverage in America expands, which it is at a very fast rate, so more and more people will be able to save cable TV subscriptions and watch movies and other TV favorites online. As the demand grows so will the choice of movies to watch online.
In
the past the cable and satellite TV business has been recession proof but we think that was largely down to the fact that there was no genuine competition but now that we can watch movies online you may even see subscription rates coming down as the cable providers try to hold on to their subscribers.
