My friends and I are making a horror movie for fun and need some tips on lighting.

Get high-beam flashlights and add a red bulbs, then prop them up around your subjects. Get as much as you can, because while Flips are cool and cute, they are not great quality. You’ll need as much light as possible to make it look decent.
