I am a independent filmaker and i am making a movie called Raised in the Projects. It is a movie about a bright young teen who tries to survive the dangers and temptations of street life in North Memphis. The story starts at home of a Terrence Jackson aka T.J, where his mother is getting into an arguement with her estranged boyfriend. Terrence tries to stop the arguement but his mom’s boyfriend strikes him down. His mom pushes her boyfriend in defense of her son, only to get hit too. Terrence gets up and brawls with his mom’s boyfriend and actaully gets him to leave the house before embracing with his emotionally distraught mother. They put the incident behind them. The next day at school Terrence finds out that he has made the Honor Roll for the second straight semester. He now has a 3.5 GPA as a result. This irks the lazy bullies in his class who call him a punk who will never make it out of the ghetto. This angers Terrence who confronts them after school. He tells them that could be great if they stop trying to be thugs. In response, the bullies jump him.. When he returns to school, he carries a knife with him for protection. When the bullies try to jump him again, he pulls the knife on them. But he gets caught by the principal who suspends him. Terrence tries to explain it was for protection but the principal does not budge. When Terrence returns to school he finds out that the bullies were expelled after getting caught up in a gang fight. He also finds out that his favorite teacher and mentor has died in a car accident. Terrence goes to his teacher’s funeral and breaks down with devestation. However he is comforted by a beautiful girl named Lisa, who happens to be the niece of his fallen teacher. After the funeral, Lisa invites him to her house and they have a nice conversation which helps them get over their grief. They become friends and begin to talk and meet regularly over the next two weeks and eventually decide to start dating. They decide to have their first date at a local diner and things go well. After the date, Lisa invites Terrence back to her house(her parents are away for the weekend) and says they should “do it” Terrence is hesitant about it at first but Lisa seduces him with her sexy charm and they have safe sex. After the weekend Terrence starts to prepare for the SAT, which he failed as a junior. He takes the test and feels good about it. But just as Terrence’s life seems to be pain free at the moment, he suffers another setback. His mother informs him that she has cancer. Terrence is shaken. The next day, Terrence goes to see the priest at his church and expresses his sorrow. He tells his priest that everytime something goes right in his life, something terrible destroys it. Terrence says he wants to give up. His preacher tells him to eliminate that way of thinking. He tells him to stay strong no matter what. They pray together before Terrence leaves. While his mother tries to find treatment, Terrence refocuses on his education. This is just part of the plot. I will put the next part of the plot in another question.
This is a part 2 of the plot: Terrence refocuses on his education and tells his mom he will get his diploma for her. He gets his SAT scores back and he achives a 2100! Terrence mails his score with his college applications around the country. By the end of the school year, Terrence gets a letter of acceptance form Howard University and gets a full scholarship. Terrence is thrilled and Lisa is too as she aalso applied and got accepted to Howard. Terrence’s mom throws a pre-graduation party and invites their relatives along with Lisa and their reletives at the house. But tragedy strikes the party when a Drive-by shooting is preformed on the house. The shooters were the bullies who jumped Terrence earlier in the school year. Terrence is hit by some of the stray bullets in the shooting. As his family rushes him to the hospital, he falls into a coma. A flashback of the movie’s events. Terrence eventually wakes up from the coma.
Last part of the plot: Terrence survives the shooting. He is released a week after getting treated for his wounds. Graduation is 2 weeks away and Terrence is determined to attend and he does where he gets his diploma. After graduation, the movie fast fowards 9 years where we find Terrence and his now his wife Lisa with their infant daughter. They are at the grave of Terrence’s mother who has now died of her cancer. Terrence thanks his mom for being there for him and kisses her grave. He says he was raised in the projects and he is glad she was the one to raise him. He, Lisa and their daughter then leave as the movie ends. I know the movie sounds cliche, but don’t you think this could work with good actors who can preform with right emotion?

I didn’t read it but if you have a dream of making a movie than go for it. I’m sure you’ll get two thumbs up. 🙂
