Question by : What is the difference between a professional camcord and a professional photo camera?
My Friend bought a Cannon 7D and it takes pictures and records just fine it has a great big lense to it and he uses for his photoshooting. We want to move into movie making but i dont understand why would we need a professional camcord when the camera he owns captures videos in great quality?

because the 7D when outfitted with that great lens is too front heavy to hold steady for continuous shooting. like most dSLR cameras, it can only shoot video when locked down to a tripod. a pro-camcorders also accepts pro type XLR mics, generates SMPTE timecode for editing, has genlock so that multiple cameras can be frame synchronized, records data at 35 to 50 mbps for exceptional quality, and no blur motion.
bottom line, the 7D is an excellent camera for taking pictures of a person sitting still directly in front of the camera with studio lighting. pro video needs more versatility to capture scenes that are alive with action and less than optimal lighting. A Sony CineAlta is a $ 100,000 camcorder, no one would buy one if it were somehow possible a cheap 7D could do every bit as good with video.
