Question by quetzacotl13_5: Whats the minimum time that it takes for a musical to become a movie?
Hairspray just came out and was a musical for at least 4 years or so before someone decided to make a movie. SO is there a minimum time that a musical stays on broadway before selling movie rights? I have a feeling this is more complicated than movie producers just putzing around. For instance History Boys (not a musical but still…) went from play to movie in less than a year. Feel free to give me any news of movie versions of Spring Awakening or Wicked.

The record would probably be held by Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. It was released as a film before it appeared on the stage.
