Why do high school students applying to film schools always make movies about murders?
Question by : Why do high school students applying to film schools always make movies about murders?
At first I thought it was just because they couldn’t think of a better plot, but now I’m wondering if schools like NYU prefer that type of movie because it’s traditional. Do you think I should do one about a murder :/

I guess they do it because there seem to be a fascination of some kind with death. Maybe it’s not so much about murder as it is about horror. I think that a lot of people are into horror movies. I guess it’s easier to do murder/horror movies because comedy is harder to do. As the cliche goes, ‘everybody wants to be a comedian.’
If you did a murder/horror movie, I would think that choosing a character that is really unlikely to kill. You have movies where there are monsters or aliens that kill or where the butler committed the murder. There are even movies about sociopath (sociopathic?) children. Think about the people that you would never think of as a murder.
