Once the TV is turned on, there will be at least one skin care and make up commercial advertising the latest products. Look everywhere. One will sure find models applying creams onto their faces, applying lotion on the arms or legs, applying blusher on their cheeks or drawing the eyes with an eye liner. The society, especially the Western culture, is obsessed with makeup and skin care today. This makes one wonder where the obsession come from and whether it is healthy.
The Media
Fascination with perfection – this is the media, or rather a fascination with the perfection illusion. Models make a lot of money advertising the latest skin care and make up products. They appear in magazines, TV, and movies. Most aspire to look as beautiful as them. Although, most will never look like a model, this does not stop them from buying the latest make up and skin care products and following the latest beauty tips.
Is It Healthy?
Many asked, “Is obsession with perfection healthy?” It is always good to take care of the skin. Many of the skin care and make up products are actually good for the skin. These products moisturize, unclog pores and make you look and feel better. However, when you spend most of your money on these products, it becomes an obsession and unhealthy. Always have a healthy balance in everything.
Love Yourself For Who You Are
It is good to take care of the skin with skin care and make up products, but realize that however, one may never look like the models in magazines and TVs. One may not know the ‘real look’ of these models because they are covered up in makeup, or they may even be ‘photo-shopped’. They have special effects lighting on them, and thus makes them look perfect. These are what caused many people who want to look like models so badly, to look at the products to help them achieve the ‘perfect’ look. You will be surprised to see some of these models who look ordinary on the streets. They may look ordinary just like you and me.
