When hunting for the right young thesps, the casting veterans must consider whether the actors can handle such intense material. “We try to keep a balance of not terrifying the kids with too much of the nasty, gory or sexy stuff,” Gold explains.
You know that Detective Ryan has been planning his wedding. The episode you see on Monday is the one where Detectives Esposito Jon Huertas and Ryan Seamus Dever have a double date. So things happen that you’re not going to expect! Oh there some good surprises. And not just the double date — the entire script is really amazing. And it’s our Halloween episode, basically The performances are crazy. I can’t give away too much or else I will spoil it.
HBO’s double Emmy-winning fantasy series Game of Thrones, in production in Ireland, Iceland, and Croatia, continues to beef up its considerable cast for the ten-episode second season, meant to be a relatively faithful adaptation of the novel A Clash of Kings.
The other thing that concerns me is what I call the butterfly effect. If you’re familiar with the Ray Bradbury short story, you’ll know what I mean. On TV, we saw the death of Mago, but we will see him in the books — he’s still alive. It will have to be different in the book than in the show, because they killed him on TV. These are the kind of ripple effects that can happen.
Though produced on a relatively low budget, “Attack the Block” also demanded a lengthy casting process. The cult genre favorite follows a gang of tough inner-city teens as they defend their public-housing complex from aliens, with several of the roles going to kids who had never been in a film before.
It’s a very nice vibe. Very easy, and all of our guest cast love it. They’ll say, “I don’t want to go. I wanna stay.” And we’re like “Come back!” And of course they’re dead on the episode so it’s like no way, they can’t come back. But hey, can come to visit. We love it.
If George R.R. Martin thought he had a rabid fan base before, when each book in his best-selling fantasy series “A Song of Ice and Fire” was devoured by impatient readers, the success of the HBO adaptation Game of thrones dvd has raised the stakes considerably. We talked with Martin as he settled in after a long PR tour and got back to work on the next book in the series, The Winds of Winter.
Next year sees a darker remake of Snow White starring Kristen Stewart, and at the end of 2012 the first of Peter Jackson’s hotly anticipated Hobbit movies will reach the cinemas. Assuming they don’t always opt for mini-CGI versions of actors, these films will be expected to keep short actors in employment, but casting short people in grittier real-life roles is a less regular occurrence.
The Hunger Games movie is coming next March. If you haven’t read the imaginative and harrowing dystopian novel by Suzanne Collins, you still have the time. Starring as heroine Katniss Everdeen in the film is up and comer Jennifer Lawrence. Her two strapping young men are Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as Peeta and Gale. You knew there would be a love triangle, didn’t you? Speaking of those, Stephenie Meyer’s stand-alone, non-vampire novel The Host, is also being made into a film. It is the mother of all love triangles and casting decisions are being made now!
