Worst Movies of the Year 2009

Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

I can understood why someone thought it was a good idea to greenlight a sequel to The Boondock Saints, but still that doesn’t mean it should have happened. The original has somehow become a sort of poor man’s Tarentino cult film about a couple Irish brothers who go around killing people and saying their Hail Mary’s after. It was a pretty bad film that people like to quote all the time or make reference to despite its inane plot and horrible dialogue. The sequel was no doubt as cash-in with the hopes that the cult fans would come out to see it. They would have been better to have released this dud straight to DVD.

Sounded promising but the movie never lived up to its billing. Not even a by-now cliché cameo from Will Ferrell could save this one-note comedy from bombing with critics and the box office. If you want a clever but dumb comedy, rewatch Stepbrothers.

Even young and popular Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere can’t save this teen-comedy bomb based on the popular novel by Larry Doyle. While the novel had the wit of Mean Girls, and the Beth Cooper film adaptation desperately wishes it was as clever as that Tina Fey-written film, it ultimately falls flat due to a terrible script, bad acting by Panettiere and the typical Hollywood high school movie

clichés. Many critics blamed the director, Chris Columbus for ruining what could have a been a great novel adaptation but criticized his over-reliance on cliché dialogue and sight gags.
