“The Bourne Ultimatum”
By Pual Greengrass

“I remember everything.” That was this movie’s tagline and suited it very well. Ultimatum is the third and final instalment in the Bourne series by Pual Greengrass but is, by far, the best one to date. It tracks the account of a government super spy with amnesia as he tries to hunt down answers from his past. The movie starts right up from where it’s two predecessors left off, with Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) on his global escapade while searching for answers about his past and why his own government is hunting him down.

Being the third and final Bourne movie, as I’ve said before, the creators had a hard job ahead of them to tie up any loose ends. In the 115 minutes it runs for, the producers have done a fine job without prolonging the plot or becoming tedious. One of this movie’s many strong points was the fact that, for am action movie, it kept you engrossed without over doing the action, In all three movies for example, Bourne only shoots one person. I found this refreshing for a movie of this genre because most are adapting the Run’N’Gun approach. This should not detour the hardcore fan though as this movie does have its fair share of fights, one of which takes palce over the roof tops of Spain, jumping from house to house. This was excellently done because the producer couldn’t fit a dolly in so he opted for the tracking shot as the cameraman ran behind the chase while filming; creating the sense you were part of the fight. Lastly if Pual Greengrass did one thing surperbly thoughout this adrenaline rush, it was making you think. “Would our government actually do this? Can they spy on me like this? What would stop them doing this? If this was a point he was trying to get across it was done perfectly.

Although an excellent movie there is one point I must criticize. That is the camera work in certain places. During the dialogue scenes the cameraman seems to be afflicted with Parkinson’s because of the horrible bouncing of the camera, which ruins the seriousness, It is, however, a great technique when used right, as in the chase scenes. This is not really an important cinematographic error, and most viewers will not pick up on it in the first viewing. However when you start to look back it will become evident. Another thing is that unless you watch all movies back to back then at the beginning you may be left wondering what is going on. I found it difficult to pick up on what was happening at times amongst the varity of scenes that shouldn’t be there, new characters and the consant changing of peoples sides and personalites.

To sum things up “The Bourne Ultimatum” is another great movie in the franices and really pulls everything together nicely, however, the ending does leave you wanting more. My opinion is if you want to see a good action movie this is for you. From me 9/10 and I hope Pual Greengrass doesn’t stop movie making anytime soon because he is evidently good at it.
