Q&A: Help! Windows movie maker, why are my pictures x’s?

Question by kevyree: Help! Windows movie maker, why are my pictures x’s?
I am in the process of making a movie with pictures on windows movie maker. I have made the movie and put it on an external harddrive. Now I am at my moms, pluged my external harddrive in her computer, and when I pull it up, it shows my captions but not my pics. I have to have this done by tomorrow and I don’t know what to do??

Someone please help asap, it has taken me 7 hours already!!!
I totally did save it as a project! Where is the save movie button?
Also, if I start over here at my moms and then save it as a movie file, can I then save it on my external hard drive and then take that to school and show the presentation? Or do I need my dang computer with me?

Thanks so much, you will get my best answer if you can save my life, lol.
Where is the save movie file button? I only have save project button.

I bet I know what is wrong. I bet you saved it as a project. When you do this you are only saving your “storyboard” and not all the content with it. I bet music didn’t transfer over as well. What you need to do is save it as a movie file. File->Save Movie File. Unfortunately, you have to do this from the original location…where all your pictures are. They are presently Xs because Windows Movie Maker is looking for the source files and cannot find them.

You need to have all the pictures again. You can remake the movie at your Mom’s as long as you can get all those pictures back. When you save it as a movie file it will save all the pictures into the movie file, kind of, but you will be okay to bring the finished movie file to school. At the end you should be able to double click a movie file on your computer and it should open in Windows Media Player (or other video player) and begin playing.
