For years theres been a massive separation between industrialized, developing countries and those that are being left behind from the rest of the world, that is why the Millennium Development Goal is trying to establish a global partnership, to not only prevent such events like this from happening in the future but to get countries that are behind the developing world caught up. The United Nations estimates that unfair trade rules deny poor countries 0 billion every year. Less than 0.01% of this could save the sight of 30 million people. They also estimated that international trade is worth million a minute. 70% of this is controlled by multinational corporations. These are the numbers that represent the separation amongst industrialized and unindustrialized countries, and the numbers are getting worse off for African countries. It’s estimated that rich countries are gaining 1.8 billion per year in trade while Africa is .6 billion per year worse off. There are millions of people in many countries living off of less than a dollar a day. Current trade rules force Mexican farmers who live on a dollar a day to compete with American farmers receiving subsidies of more than US000 a year. While the average cow in the EU receives more than a day in subsidies, while more than 3 billion people in developing countries …
