Sam, the cover letter isn’t the problem. The script should first be composed in the detailed proper format in accordance with specs found on the website of the WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA, WEST. (the UNION)—(assuming you live west of the Mississippi River).
The script should then be sent to the guild for registration and time/date stamping. They keep a copy in their vaults and send you back a stamped copy. This is for your copyright type protection (although it is not a copyright) and this service is available to non-members. This service has been very important in numerous lawsuits over many decades….
Then send the registered photocopy out with the stamp on it and see if anyone thinks you are as clever as I hope you are…
Then when you become successful you need to join the union or agents won’t even look at your stuff…Good Luck
