Question by deistperson: How do JWs make sense of picking and choosing what things they consider to be pagan?
How do JWs make sense of picking and choosing what things they consider to be pagan. Last week i finally saw the movie Religulous. In that movie (and i don’t actually agree with the movie) but it basically taught that other Gods were called the way truth and life, the lamb, died and were saviors of all mankind, born of a virgin. Now the JWs say they don’t have anything to do with paganism ie hell, immediate life after death, trinity. But it almost seems to me that if you go down that road that it is a very dangerous road to go down. If you start rooting Christianity of so called paganism…what do you have left? I mean really. So it seems like to be a Christian you must accept all of it and not pick and choose what things you think are pagan. Because once you go down the road of calling certain christian beliefs pagan…then when do you stop?

It’s true that other “gods” were said to be born of a virgin, but it only happened in Jesus’ case. We believe that God did this to- in a sense- disprove Paganism and show that Christianity is the only true religion.
This happened with the Plagues in the Bible too.
