If you make a video, can it still be called filming? Is there another word for this besides video recording?

What is term for this, if you used a video recorder or camcorder can you say, I filmed this. Or is the term ‘film’ only used for the old style of making movies with the reels.

If you take photographs can you also say, I filmed this.

It it still called filming even if one is using a digital camcorder or something of that nature. The term still applies. Photos are a little different. Nowadays one would use the verbs to shoot or to take unless they were actually using a camera that used film.
For example: “I took the pictures.” “I was filming the video.”
