This one’s going to be quite a bit long since I want to be as detailed as possible, so here goes: (mini-novel?)
I’ve had a crush on one of my ex-friends since we were good friends in the seventh grade. We had been making a movie and we were having fun. The reason we lost our friendship wasn’t bad; it was because we just stopped talking for some reason.
Later on in October of 2008, I asked my friend to ask him out for me because I was too chicken. She did, but he said “Eww, no, I’m not gay.” But as time passed, I noticed that he started to stare into my eyes in a soft way, almost as if he had fallen in love.
Again, skipping forward to December, I told the same friend to give him a paper I had written really corny stuff on (like Nathaniel+Will=Love, I want to feel his soft lips pressed against mine, etc). I changed my mind, but it was too late. After making an a** out of myself, he got the note. I was scared of what he would think, but in math class the next day, he decided to sit next to me. I thought it was a coincidence, but the day after that he sat next to me again. The third day, although the desks had been rearranged and his friends were on the other side of the room, he sat next to me yet again. But because I was chicken, I didn’t make a move.
Anyway, the holidays came and went, and school started again. Nothing big happened up until March 9th. That was when a girl named Emalee decided to ask him out, and he said yes. Of course, I didn’t find out until March 11th. I was heartbroken and devastated. I hate myself every day for making the decision to not make a move. And now he’s happy with her and they hang out in between every class and go the whole nine yards (I’m surprised they haven’t kissed yet, or at least made it public). Yet he still stares into my eyes, not as much, and only for a second (compared to maybe 5-10 seconds earlier in the year). But with only 19 days left in the school year, I doubt they’ll break up.
I want to know how I can talk to him without it being random (for example, people have suggested “what’s your favorite color”) or too awkward. I miss our friendship, and even though I wanted more, I would be happy just to be able to hang out with him every day. Hopefully I didn’t bore everybody with my mini-novel, LOL.

AWWW thats cute! lol, well, i think you should just be random and say, “hey whats up”. And then just talk about something that happened at lunch the other day, or gossip. Or you could just talk about video games or whatever you two are interested in. But there is always next year. And who knows you might get to hang out with him over summer.
