There are several ways you can go about doing this:
1. Most studio films license music through the music publishers or record labels, depending on who owns the publishing rights. However, you can reach independent films directly. Look for films still in production. Magazines like Indie Slate have production listings and, most of the time, contact information, Craigslist has independent films seeking crews and cast that you can contact, Mandy.com, and many other websites have indie films in production. While you may not get much money at first (sometimes no pay at all), this does give you both exposure and music credit, both of which can lead to bigger things.
2. Submit your work to music licensing websites. There are tons of these websites that you can use, so be sure to research each site and read their terms and agreements thoroughly. Some require exclusivity, so be sure before you agree. This will also get you out there, but you will be part of a database and might have to promote your stuff yourself.
3. Submit directly to studios. This is a much longer shot, but you can send samples or links to your music to studio personnel. I’d recommend finding out the aquisition executives or, for the bigger studios, the music department heads and send it to them.
4. Lastly, you can submit your work to the entertainment magazines and music magazines. If it’s notable quality, they may either write a review online or, if it’s really good, a published review.
Hope this helps!
