Lights and textures in Real-Draw Pro (20th C. Ltd poster)
A Real-Draw Pro tutorial involving shapes and lights with a touch of bevel and texture fills. This tutorial uses Leslie Ragan’s famous Art Deco poster of the New York Central 20 th Century Limited train. The engine cladding by Henry Dreyfuss turned a standard steam engine into an iconic, streamlined symbol of 30s design. The tutorial covers basic steps in making the engine cladding, briefly touches on the rail and ballast, and gives a few hints on representing the steam plume in the sky. We copy Leslie, but then (as you’ll see in the tutorial) Leslie copied an NYC publicity photo. It’s commercial art, folks, where everyone copies everyone and everything.
