ok so what i do is download the instrumental and then put it on my ipod , listen to it on my ipod and then record my vocals , then i add in the instrumental along with my vocals in windows movie maker , but when i do my vocals aren’t as clear as the instrumental which makes it sounds worse.
is there software where i can record my voice while the instrumental is playing in the piece of software? if you get what i mean , so then i can mesh them together for a clearer sound.
any help is greatly appreciated , thank you!
just to add in case you don’t understand ,
i need software were i can add the instrumental and then record my vocals over it …… but still be able to play the bare instrumental on the software itself so i can sing along with it , for timing etc….
sorry for the bad explanation , just not with it today and i know what i am looking for in my head but its harder to explain.

This should do it..
Audacity is a free multi-track audio recording and editing app.
Needs to be user set for multi-track recording – instructions below.
Audacity:

Multi-track recording setup:
Version 1.2 via File menu, version 1.3 via Edit menu.
Preferences / Audio I/O tab and check:
“play other tracks while recording new one”.
Import the first track then monitor it while recording subsequent track/s.
It’s best to use headphones while doing this to prevent feedback.

2: Import your instrumental track first via the project menu then use the record button to add your vocal.
How are you recording your vocals?
To get the best result with your vocals use an external mic.
Even a cheap one will give better results than if you are using a inbuilt laptop mic.
