Question by ineedavisionary: I want a career in the film industry…what should I be doing right now?
I’m 20, currently a junior in college majoring in English. Up until now I never had any real direction towards anything, or I just kept changing my career path. I think was I just convincing myself that I was aiming for this career or that career just to keep my parents proud and not have them worry about me living in a box after I graduate.

Lately I’ve been thinking about pursuing a career in the film industry.. more specifically, I’d love to direct movies. I know it might be a bit outlandish and naive for a person who has no remote concept of what it’s like working in film, but I’ve never felt so passionate about something. I love movies, and sometimes I write little stories and poems, and I think up ideas for movies – that’s all I have going right now.

I’m looking into possibly minoring in film studies at my school (or just taking as many courses as possible), and right now I’m just trying to soak up every bit of knowledge I can about film and movie making and directing people (right now I’m reading “Making Movies” by Sidney Lumet). I’m clueless but more than willing to learn

My question to you is, what should I do to prepare myself? Should I be looking at Film School (I’m poor so it might not be a feasible option)? Making movies? Looking at a job as a PA?

Am I too late?
